About the TUFH 2026

TUFH 2026 is a joint conference between The Network Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) and the University of the Philippines Manila. At the TUFH 2026 Annual Conference, TUFH will be celebrating its 47th anniversary. The University of the Philippines Manila was one of the founding universities 47 years ago.

The City of Manila, the capital of the Philippines and host city of TUFH 2026, offers a rich blend of history, culture, food, and urban energy that makes it an exciting destination for tourists. It is gritty and vibrant, with a mix of old-world charm and modern chaos. Manila offers that raw, layered urban experience for a traveler who loves exploring authentic, lived-in cities.

TUFH 2026 will be an international, intersectoral, and intergenerational in-person and virtual conference that brings together academic organizations and global health providers into a single event. We strongly recommend attending in person, but for those unable to travel, we will provide the opportunity for virtual participation.

Venue
The University of the Philippines Manila (UP Manila) is the health sciences center of the UP System and the country’s leading institution for medical and health-related education, research, and public service. Established in 1908 and located in the historic Ermita district of Manila, it is home to the UP College of Medicine, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the National Institutes of Health, and several other colleges focused on health sciences. UP Manila plays a vital role in producing top healthcare professionals, advancing medical research, and providing quality, accessible healthcare to the Filipino people.

The Henry Sy Sr. Medical Sciences Building at the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine (UPCM) was officially inaugurated in November 2022. It was built through the collaboration of the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Foundation, Inc. (UPMAFI) and the Henry Sy Foundation, Inc. (HSFI).

TUFH Philosophy
TUFH is based on relationships between organizations, people, and those collaborating around common interests. These relationships are not static but rather grow and develop from new members and future generations. TUFH is not an insular organization, but an ever evolving and inclusive network that embraces other organizations that strive to create educational practices, community health approaches, and partner on research to develop the evidence for what works.

TUFH aspires to serve as a catalyst to promote positive change in local systems and actors. TUFH’s model addresses problems by looking for what is working and why. This accelerates the process of positive change by occupying people with doing rather than dwelling on why it can’t be done.

The aim the conference is to bring together international participants from different health and educational sectors to network, learn and teach. During the scientific sessions (Workshops, Oral Presentations, TUFH Talks, Documentaries) participants learn about a vast array of topics.

At the conference there are always keynote speakers that capture the important messages related to the conference themes. During the conference on the move participants will go out into communities and see projects and organizations do the work and learn about in firsthand. Multiple networking opportunities provide ample options to extend everyone’s professional network.

About the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO TDR)

TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, is a global scientific collaboration that supports research and innovation to combat infectious diseases of poverty. Co-sponsored by UNICEF, UNDP, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO), TDR works to strengthen research capacity in disease-affected countries and promote the translation of evidence into effective interventions that improve health outcomes and build resilience among vulnerable populations.

Based at WHO headquarters, TDR collaborates closely with WHO departments, regional offices, and global research partnerships to align scientific evidence with actions that improve health on the ground. Through strong partnerships with its co-sponsors, TDR contributes to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals by improving access to health innovations, supporting national capacities, and strengthening health systems.

Guided by a vision of improved health and well-being through research and innovation, TDR also emphasizes accountability and continuous learning to enhance performance and maximize impact for the communities it serves.

About the Social Innovation in Health Network

The Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) is a dynamic, country-led network advancing universal health coverage through social innovation research, community engagement, and equity-driven approaches across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

To date, SIHI has a global network of 15 hubs hosted by research institutions, strengthening social innovation research, evidence generation, and capacity in LMICs. These hubs collaborate with partners at local, national, and global levels to support locally driven solutions that improve health systems and outcomes.

The SIHI network is supported by TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease, co-sponsored by UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, and WHO. TDR is able to conduct its work thanks to the commitment and support from a variety of funders. For the full list of TDR donors, please see: https://www.who.int/tdr/about/funding/en/. TDR receives additional funding from Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, to support SIHI.
